SWTJC Workforce Training and Development Program Promotes Opportunities for CHS Seniors
Southwest Texas Junior College Workforce Training and Development representatives met with Cotulla High School Seniors on Friday, January 26, 2024 to provide information on numerous educational programs.
The following programs are available to Seniors right after they graduate.  As Seniors are graduating in May, they can enroll in these courses and be certified within months with the skills to enter the workforce.
Medical Billing and Coding Specialist is a 3 month program that includes instruction in the rules and guidelines to complete medical claims, insurance forms, and reimbursements. A MBCS can work at clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, etc.
 
Electronic Health Records Specialist is a 3 month program that prepares students to learn how to enter information to medical records, insurance forms, and collect patient demographics. A EHRS can work at clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, etc.
 
Commercial Drivers License CDL is a 160 hour course (less than one month) that assists students with passing the Commercial Drivers License written and driving examinations.  Students who complete the CDL program will be able to work in the truck driving, transportation, or oil field industry.   
 
Powerline Technician is a 6 month program that helps students learn the basics of electrical systems, meter reading, distribution, and how to read voltages.  All students will also receive training in the Class A CDL.  A PT can work with an electric or powerline company, or storm chaser (first responder) companies.
 
 
Professional Communication Specialist is a 48 hour online course that teaches students on the basics of customer service at airlines, business offices, telemarketing companies, etc.
 
Pharmacy Technician is a short course that trains students on how to assist the Pharmacist, safely complete tasks, and maintain medication safety. Pharmacy Technicians can work at a pharmacy.
 
The following courses are available with the SWTJC workforce Training and Development.  The courses are offered at Cotulla High School:
  • Patient Care Technician
  • Medical Assistant
  • Phlebotomy Technician
  • Electrocardiogram Technician
CHS is in the process of providing the Forklift Operator Certification Course to CHS in March 2024.  12 Seniors who are at least 18 years of age and with a valid drivers' license will be able to participate in the 2 day course.
