It may only be September, but time flies and soon it will be graduation. So Cotulla High School seniors have been preparing for one of the biggest choices of their lives: What’s next? The CHS Seniors met with Mrs. Maldonado and Ms. Garcia last week to learn about the different options they have after graduation. The Seniors will meet for Day 2 on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 in the Counseling Center. Seniors, please check your email.
Here’s a look at the options that were discussed:
🏫 University (4-Year College)
Universities offer bachelor’s degrees in a wide variety of fields. This is a great path if you want to become a teacher, doctor, engineer, accountant, or pursue careers that require advanced education. Universities often provide research opportunities, campus life, and a strong network of alumni. Visit www.commonapp.org or www.applytexas.org for information and application deadlines.
🏢 Community College (2-Year College)
Community colleges provide affordable tuition and flexible schedules. Students can earn associate degrees or transfer credits to a university. Many also offer certifications that prepare you to enter the workforce quickly. Visit www.applytexas.org for information and application deadlines.
🛠️ Technical or Trade School
Technical schools specialize in hands-on careers such as welding, cosmetology, auto mechanics, HVAC, nursing, and more. These programs are often shorter than college and prepare you with specific skills to enter the job market right away. Visit the technical or trade school's website for information or to access the application.
🎖️ Military
The U.S. Armed Forces (ARMY, MARINES, AIR FORCE, NAVY, COAST GUARD, and SPACE FORCE provide career training, college assistance, leadership skills, travel, and the honor of serving your country. Enlisting can help pay for college through benefits like the GI Bill and open doors to specialized careers.
💼 Workforce
Some graduates choose to start working right after high school. This path allows you to earn money immediately, gain work experience, and explore your interests. Many employers also offer on-the-job training or tuition assistance for continuing education later. Workforce Solutions-Middle Rio Grande offers great resources to help Seniors with employment after high school.
✨ The Bottom Line
No matter which path you choose—whether it’s a four-year university, community college, technical school, military service, or jumping straight into the workforce—what matters most is that you pursue a path that fits your goals, passions, and lifestyle. Success comes in many forms, and your journey is just beginning!
