HISTORY MADE IN 2026!

COTULLA COWGIRLS & COWBOYS PUNCH THEIR TICKETS TO REGIONALS!

History was made on October 14, 2026, as the Cotulla Cowgirls and Cowboys competed at the District 28-3A Cross Country Championships in Carrizo Springs, Texas.

Heading into the district championships, the varsity girls were projected to finish 2nd, while the varsity boys were projected to finish 5th. With only the top three teams earning a spot at the regional championships, both teams knew what was at stake.

COWGIRLS MAKE HISTORY!

The varsity girls started the morning with a strong performance, led by Jazlynn Olivas, who earned an impressive 2nd-place finish. Dayanna Conchas followed closely in 4th place, while Destiny Garcia secured 6th place, giving the Cowgirls three runners in the top six!

Rounding out the varsity girls were:

Jazlynn Olivas — 2nd

Dayanna Conchas — 4th

Destiny Garcia — 6th

Chloe Garcia — 30th

Jackeline Alba — 32nd

Destiny Freeman — 36th

The Cowgirls finished 3rd overall with 74 points, behind district champion Lytle (50 points) and runner-up Devine (62 points), earning their ticket to the Region IV-3A Championships!

This marks the first time since 2017 that the Cotulla varsity girls have qualified for regionals as a team! The 2017 Cowgirls also finished 3rd at district, making this accomplishment a special moment in program history.

COWBOYS CONTINUE THEIR REGIONAL STREAK!

The varsity boys entered the meet projected to finish 5th, but they had other plans!

Leading the Cowboys was Emmanuel Lopez, who delivered an outstanding 3rd-place finish. Saul Avina followed in 21st, with Jarek Gonzalez finishing 41st.

Rounding out the varsity boys were:

Emmanuel Lopez — 3rd

Saul Avina — 21st

Jarek Gonzalez — 41st

Josemaria Vargas — 64th

Ayden Villarreal — 88th

Armando Garza — 127th

The Cowboys battled their way to a 3rd-place team finish with 88 points, behind district champion Lytle (21 points) and runner-up Devine (64 points), securing their second consecutive trip to the regional championships!

26 YEARS IN THE MAKING!

For the first time in approximately 26 years, both the Cotulla varsity boys and girls cross country teams have qualified for the regional championships in the same season!

These student-athletes showed up, competed with heart, and represented Cotulla with pride. Throughout the season, they have put in countless miles, early mornings, and hours of hard work. Today, that dedication paid off!

What makes this accomplishment even more special is the determination these athletes showed when it mattered most. Rankings and projections didn’t determine the outcome. Their effort, toughness, and willingness to compete for one another did.

We couldn’t be prouder of these young men and women. They have made history for Cotulla Cross Country and set a new standard for the future of this program.

If you see any of these outstanding student-athletes around campus or in the community, please take a moment to congratulate them on this incredible accomplishment!

NEXT STOP: REGIONALS!

The Cotulla Cowgirls and Cowboys will return to action on October 27, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, for the UIL Region IV-3A Cross Country Championships!

The journey isn’t over. There’s still work to be done!

ALL IN!
