College Dreams Start Early! 🎓
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, Cotulla High School was proud to assist 8th grade students from Newman Middle School as they submitted their first college application to Southwest Texas College in Uvalde, Texas. All 8th grade students successfully completed a two-year college application, marking an exciting milestone in their academic journeys.
This initiative supports Cotulla ISD’s launch of an Early College High School beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, with the Class of 2030 proudly serving as our first cohort. Students who begin taking dual enrollment college courses at the start of their 9th grade year will have the opportunity to graduate in May 2030 with an Associate of Arts in General Studies, completing at least 60 academic college semester credit hours.
A special thank you to Mr. Cruz Mata, Ms. Anahi Ramirez, and Ms. Thelma Herrera from Southwest Texas College for their time, guidance, and support in assisting our students through the www.applytexas.org application process.
Students and parents who would like more information about the Early College High School program may contact Ms. Nelda Garcia, Ms. Nanette Garcia, or Mrs. Marlene Maldonado.
📸 Pictured are some of the 8th grade students who worked diligently on their college applications.
